About Akin Ojagbemi
Akin Ojagbemi, MBBS, PhD. MSc, ranks in the top 1% of scholars writing about dementia globally in the past 10 years. He is a NIHR and Wellcome Global Health Partnership International Intermediate fellow. Akin has specialiazed training in dementia care from the Institute of Psychiatry and the Maudsley hospital London.
He earned his PhD in Psychiatry from Stellenbosch University Cape Town in 2014 and a Postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Trials Design and implementation from Northwestern University Chicago.
Akin’s research background is from being part of participants assessment in the key international comparative study of dementia in Nigeria and Indianapolis United States. He currently conducts research in global mental health, epidemiology, mental health systems strengthening and intervention studies.
To date, Akin has published over 85 journal articles, six book chapters one monograph, some of which have appeared in The Lancet, JAMA and World Psychiatry. He is the principal Investigator of an ongoing study in Nigeria aimed at developing task shared psychosocial interventions on digital platforms for older peoples’ depresion. Akin also leads a multidisciplinary team in Nigeria with outpatient and in-patient responsibilities covering the mental health of older adults and dementia care.
